THE MAN THAT MANY DESIRED – my father, my hero
When I first received the news that you had passed, my consciousness congealed with my unconscious and then I started to think about way back, from when and whence you came, who you were, what you became and the legacy you left behind.
Initially, I said to myself, “buddy” you are gone…….wow! Reminding me, of your own AKA for me, when we communicated by phone. You were known to many on this side of the “divide” as Bishop, but throughout the continent of Africa, you were simply known as Father Hayes. To you Daddy, I say:
A special dad is hard to find.
You dad I’m keeping in my mind,
I wished you could have stayed forever,
But I will never forget you, oh! not ever.
If dreams weren’t dreams and dreams came true,
I wouldn’t be here I’d be with you.
Distance is one thing that keeps us apart,
But dad, you, will always remain in my heart.
A special smile, a special face, a special someone I can’t replace,
I love you and I always will,
You’ve left a vacuum no one will ever be able to fill that space
You are simply the greatest man I ever knew, so Daddy, until…
In you I saw light,
In you I saw hope,
In you I saw redemption,
In you I saw love.
You personified what Christ stood for…
You showed compassion,
You showed kindness.
You were gentle,
You were charitable,
You were caring,
You were resourceful,
You were thoughtful,
You were a doer,
You were skillful,
Yes: A Provider,
A Builder,
A Plumber,
A Gardener,
A Teacher,
A Believer
A Prayer Warrior,
and a Pilot.
You taught me how a man should behave,
You showed your worth through actions and deeds – never expecting anything in return,
You were gracious and grateful.
You showed mercy,
To me, you were like the rain after a period of drought.
You quenched many thirsts, with your knowledge of God’s word.
Mommy, you were the man who loved her.
Character, you were the man who possessed it.
Conviction, you were the man who strongly held it.
Prayer, you were the man who continually said it.
Counselor, you were the man who discharged it.
A man of immense Wisdom, thank God for it.
A dynamic Preacher, praise God for it.
But most of all, you feared the Lord.
To you I say, you lived a life that was purposeful,
Your journey on earth has come to an end,
But, I vow to keep the memories of your wisdom alive in my heart,
Go to your resting place buddy………May God save a seat, at that very table, for me, Daddy.
Your Loving Son,
Mark Hayes
