Zachris Willis, Jr. Obituary

Zachris Willis Jr., a man whose infectious laughter and sharp wit brightened the lives of everyone around him, passed peacefully in his home on June 24, 2025.

Born on October 1, 1948 in Selma, AL to Ethel and Zachris Willis, Zack was the apple of his mother’s eye. A proud graduate of South High School in Youngstown, Ohio, he carried his humor into every chapter of his life. He bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge. He was also a loyal member of Victory Lutheran Church.

He spent years working on the railroad with B and O, then later retired from AT&T as a lineman. Zack had a knack for making people laugh, whether it was with a perfectly timed joke or a sharp-witted response, Zack always made those around him smile. He enjoyed a good game of cards or shooting pool.

Zack is now reunited with his father, mother, and his kindred spirit, Uncle Leroy Wiggins, who are undoubtedly already together smiling. He leaves a legacy to his two sons, Chris (Renee) Willis, son of Joann Williams,  and Zachris (Jessica) Willis, son of BJ. He was the loving grandfather of Zachris David, Lila, Preston, and Malachi.  He is also survived by his beloved sister, Patricia Salter, who affectionately knew him as "Whistle" – a childhood nickname that characterized his upbeat personality. His nephew, Jermaine Salter and “favor-ite”niece, Evette Woods, will cherish the memories of their uncle. He will also be missed by his special friend, Paula.

Zack taught us all that life is too short not to laugh. While we'll miss his presence dearly, we know he's in a better place. His laughter will continue to echo in our hearts, reminding us to always find the humor, even in the most serious moments.
