Mr. Willie Rogers, Jr., 83, of Youngstown transitioned from this earthly labor to his heavenly reward on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Rogers was born October 7, 1941 in Louise, Mississippi, a son of Willie Sr. and Lucille Hamlin Rogers, coming to this area as a young man. He was a 1960 graduate of East High School and attended Arizona State University under a football scholarship. While in high school he played football and track/field. He was past commander at the Donald Lockett Post 6488. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and LeBron James fan; enjoyed watching westerns, bowling, and above all loved being with his family. Willie was a U. S. Army Viet Nam veteran.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life and legacy, four children, Niecy Aiken of Columbus, Nicole Holland-Wingard of Cleveland, Willie (Michelle) Rogers III of Daytona, FL and Jackie Rogers Holland of Pittsburgh, PA; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Shaw of Youngstown and Geri Woods of Campbell; loving friend, Sherri Hasley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Rogers; son, Sean Rogers; and grandson, Sean Dozier.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, OH. A celebration of his life will follow at 10:00 a.m.
