Virginia Lee Fannings

Virginia Lee Fannings (Hart), 83, of Struthers, wet to her eternal home with Jesus on Good Friday, April 3, 2026.

            Virginia was born May 1, 1942, in Youngstown, the daughter of Everett and Susan Slaughter Hart.  A graduate of Struthers High School, she worked at Kmart for many years starting in the electronics department and then moving on to their bookkeeping position.  With this newfound skill and love for bookkeeping, she went on to work at various bank branches throughout the Mahoning Valley.

            She married Richard A. Fannings in 1963, whom she was with for 42 years until his passing in 2005.  She was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where she lovingly served in the church choir and other various roles.  She was a former member of the National Council of Negro Women-Youngstown Chapter serving as treasurer, and a member of the American Business Women’s Association.  She also loved attending workout classes at the downtown YMCA, an avid traveler frequently going on bus trips to casinos or cruises with friends and family, and she loved walking at Roosevelt Park or around the neighborhood.

            She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children, Tracey Elaine Lynn and Richard Allen Fannings II; three wonderful grandchildren whom she loved the most, Leonard Cornelius Rogers, Leslie Catherine Rogers and Celine Lynn; two great grandchildren, Jayden Daniels and Kamara Lee Barrie; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

            Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Harold, Thomas, Evelyn and Melvin Hart.

            Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 p.m.
