Mr. Thomas L. Smith
Thomas L. Smith, affectionately known as “Doc” aged 77, passed away peacefully on November 13, at home. He was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, loving uncle and dear friend to many.
Thomas was born March 8, 1947, in Anderson, SC, a son of Roosevelt and Georgia Plantin Smith.
Mr. Smith was a 1966 graduate of South High School and was a Vietnam War veteran, date serving 1967-1969. He was a surgical tech for Southside and Northside Hospitals, where he was respected for his dedication and hard work. He went on to work for the Youngstown Health Department, where he later retired. He approached every task with diligence and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on all who has the pleasure of working with him.
In his free time, Thomas, liked DJing, grilling, handy work, and all things concerning home improvement. Thomas also found solace and joy in the simple moments spent with his family and friends. Especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“Doc” will be dearly missed by his children; Dorsetta D. Davis of Killeen, TX, Darilyn Diane Clark, Thomas L. (desaree) Smith II of Youngstown, OH, a sister in law, Antionette Smith of Youngstown, OH; (13) grandchildren, Ronnell and Jeremiah Davis, Rochelle Corbitt, Ciera Clark, Chrystal Clark, Chaunta’ Lewis, Anthony Smith, Thomas L. Smith III, Jeremiah, Gabrielle, and William Smith, Aliyah and Emanuel Boykin; (13) great-grandchildren, a special friend, Linda Beachum, and a host of other family and friends. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly for his kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Bessie Ervin, Rosalee Walls, William R. Smith, and Jefferson L. Smith; (4) grandchildren, John Curtis IV, Courtney, Rakaylah, and Ranayja Clark, and the love of his life and mother of his children, Betty A. Clark.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 11:00 am, at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, OH, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 am.
