Sheldon K. McGhee

Our beloved Mr. Sheldon K. McGhee, 24 of Columbus formerly of Youngstown, departed this life Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.  

Mr. McGhee was born July 14, 1999, in Youngstown, a son (first born) of Shelby McGhee and Katrina Thompkins. In 2017 Sheldon graduated from Hubbard High School where he was able to showcase many of his multiple talents and abilities. He played Varsity football for multiple years, played the saxophone in the Marching Band, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He continued to develop his love of fitness at Hiram College where he studied Exercise Science and received his Bachelors in 2021. Sheldon aspired to work as a personal trainer or in Sports Medicine. Sheldon was employed as an Operating Room Assistant with Ohio Orthopedic Surgery Institute. Due to his dedication to always performing his best and his attention to detail, he was highly regarded at work. 

 Sheldon was passionate about working out, eating healthy, and educating people about health and fitness. He was devoted to family and friends. He enjoyed playing basketball, video games and listening to music. He had a love for watching anime, which he shared with his siblings and uncle. He enjoyed trying new foods and cooking, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He especially loved supporting his siblings and encouraging them from the sidelines for any sporting events that he could attend. He was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bulls fan.  

Sheldon’s loving personality, patience, kindness, sense of humor, respectfulness, thoughtfulness, and most of all his selflessness, which are a few of his many attributes that will certainly be missed. 

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his mother and father both of Youngstown; three brothers, Braylen Thompkins, KaeVon Kennedy, and Shelby McGhee Jr.; a sister, Shirlynn McGhee; grandmother, Loretta Thompkins; his uncles who helped to raise him, Algie (Amanda) Thompkins III, and Kevin (Tranay Davis) Thompkins both of Columbus; his significant other, Angel (Claudia) Jones; and a host of family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by this grandparents, Shirley McGhee and Algie Thompkins Jr.  

Visitation will be Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m.
