Ruth N. Woodard

Mrs. Ruth N. Woodard. 86, of Youngstown, Ohio transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

            Mrs. Ruth N. Woodard was born June 10, 1937 in Carrolton, Georgia, a daughter of Clarence J.D. and Jessie Mae Powell North.  She was a 1955 graduate of South High School and after graduation joined the WACS (Women’s Army Corps) with an honorable discharge. Ruth had worked for over 30 years with United States Postal Service as Clerk in Charge.  She also worked as a clerk for HEAP Program.  She was a member of the South Central Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Youngstown.  She was an avid bowler with F.D. Mason bowling league, Youngstown Travelers and other bowling leagues.  She enjoyed crocheting, making hats, scarfs, purses, and blankets. Her passion was being with her family and always would say, “That’s family”.  She loved watching T.V., especially westerns with her Son-in-law, Ewald (Jerry).

            She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, her daughter, Cheryl (Ewald) Woodard-Harris of Youngstown; grandchildren, Corey T. North, Sr., of Youngstown,  Ewald Jerry (Tacarra) Harris III, of Columbus, Lesley M. North of Forth Worth, Texas, whom she reared, Frankie C. North, of Youngstown, whom she also reared, Jenna M. (Thomas) Phillips of Youngstown; great grandchildren, Corey T. North, Jr., De’lionel Edmonds Harris, Khary North, Dameer North, Mia M. North, Mya J. Philips, Thomas E. Phillips, Jr.; one great great grandson, Corey T. North III; siblings, Shirley Benton of Austintown & Eric C. North of Findlay.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, whom she married August, 14, 1959 and who passed away December 14, 2014; her daughter Vickie M. North; her siblings Alton, Jesse C., Richard, Hallie, and Yvette North, Mary Jo Hudson.

Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m.  Guests are asked to wear masks.
