Ms. Ruth A. Rhodes, 78, of Youngstown, transitioned from her earthly labor to her eternal heavenly peace on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Ms. Rhodes was born November 25, 1947 in Rose Hill, North Carolina, a daughter of Emerel and Ruth Rhodes Phillips. She was a 1965 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and received her RN license from the Trumbull Memorial School of Nursing in 1968. She had been employed as Director of the Youngstown City Health District, retiring March 27, 2008. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, its choir, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Ruth was a member of the Black Nurses Association, the NAACP, and Sunflower Garden Club. In her pastime, she enjoyed bowling, traveling, gardening, and socializing with family and friends.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, her sister, Darlene (Curtis) Harris; her special niece, Danielle Harris; great nephews, Brandon II, Daniel, Amir, Myles Gaddy; special friends, Ann Davis, Ronnie Rupert and many others; and a host of other family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Kimbrough; a nephew, Charles Kimbrough; and two nieces, Charlene and Eleanor Kimbrough.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 238 Bright Ave., Campbell, OH 44405. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
