Pastor Carmon S Bowman, known to many of his friends as “Bo or Pastor Bo” 70, of Warren Ohio passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2024.
Pastor Bowman was born October 20, 1953, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was a 1973 graduate of Youngstown East High school and worked at YDC (Youngstown Developmental Center) helping the disabled and mentally ill, was a corrections officer with the City of Warren, and a car salesman with Jim Pace Pontiac. (I'm sure he sold some of you your cars back then).
Pastor Bowman was not only a jack of all trades, he was a dynamic preacher and singer. In his life he was blessed to serve with some amazing men of God. He gave his life to God at Phillips Chapel COGIC and received his ministerial license under the leadership of Superintendent Paul Loggins. He then served and received his Eldership under Pastor Bankston at New Hope Baptist church and then served as an Elder at St. James COGIC for over 20 yrs under the leadership of Superintendent David Howard Sr. and Superintendent Dr. Melvin Howard Sr. He then was called to pastorship at Mason Temple COGIC from 2004-2008 until it merged with Good Sheppard COGIC from 2008-2017 prior to becoming ill. During that time he held positions as the Warren/Youngstown regional evangelistic president under Bishop Emmitt Nevels Sr. and was the jurisdictional evangelistic president for the northeast under Bishop Buford Terry. Later in life he served under his son, Bishop Designate Cameron T. Bowman at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Meadeville, Pa.
Pastor Bowman not only was known for his preaching, but he was a dynamic singer and sung with various groups such as the Galatian gospel singers, the Christian All-Stars, Mount Zion COGIC choir in Youngstown, Oh, and the St. James COGIC choir of Warren, Oh. On a good night you could catch him singing the song he was known for, “Mississippi Po’ boy”.
Pastor Bowman was well loved and will be missed by many. Amongst those who cherish and carry on his legacy are his wife of 39 years, Minnie Bowman of Warren, Oh. Three sisters, Fresha Stanford of Columbus, Oh, Claudette Brown of Youngstown, Oh, and Daphne Bowman of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Brian Bowman (Maria) of Liberty, Oh. Children, Marlon Reed (Jamee), Casey Bowman, Bishop Designate Pastor Cameron Bowman Sr. (Sierah), Christian Bowman, Carmon Bowman ll, and Susie Bowman. Grandchildren, Scelina Reed, Sari Reed, Sierra Reed, Lyric Bowman, Cameron Bowman Jr, Camille Bowman; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews around the country.
Pastor Carmon Bowman was preceded in death by his grandparents Hattie Bowman and Ruth Coe; mother, Dorothy Lee Bowman; and father Claude Edwards. Five brothers, Claude Bowman, Kevin G. Bowman, Keith Bowman, Samuel Bowman, and Frederick Bowman; two sisters, Sureda M. Curry and Beatrice P. Bowman; brothers-in-law; Sam Stanford Sr. and Herbert Brown Sr.
