Mr. Nathaniel Randall Jones, Sr., 75 of Youngstown, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Mr. Jones, affectionately known as “Nashid”, was born September 5, 1950 in Youngstown, a son of William Henry and Anna Mae Heard Jones. He was a 1968 graduate of North High School and had been employed with General Motors Lordstown for 35 years, retiring in 2007. Nathaniel practiced the Muslim faith. He loved boxing, football, old school music, dancing, loved fashion, gardening, and was an avid L. A. Raiders fan. Nathaniel had boxed with the Youngstown Golden Gloves, and ran track.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, Vela Walton-Jones; four children, Nashid R. Jones, Fatimah (Steven Jr.) Phillips, Muhammad Jones, and Asya Jones all of Youngstown, and his son, Nathaniel Jones Jr. and his mother, Olivia Jones both of Wooster; seven grandchildren, Nate’, Tajamir, Kaneisha, Karma, Sania, Khadijah and Shadeed; a great granddaughter, Kaonni; siblings, John Dozier, Sr. of Youngstown, Betty Burkley of Austintown, Georgianna Smith of Struthers, Morgan Jones Sr., of Baltimore, MD; best friend, Lorenzo Haynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded by his two brothers, George Dozier Jr. and James “Shadeed” Jones.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH 44505. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10:00 a.m.
