Nathaneil Byrd Obituary

Nathaneil “Nate” Byrd, 85, transitioned from our physical world into eternal peace on Monday April 22, 2024.

Nate, was born October 24, 1938 in Youngstown to Arthur and Annabelle (Blevins) Byrd. He had been employed with Youngstown Steel Door, retiring after many years. He was a former member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Nate was a man of God and knew Him very well. A true man of faith, Nate's spiritual journey led him to explore churches all over the city, even studying with Jehovah's Witnesses. He had friends everywhere and could make a new one wherever he went. Nate enjoyed cowboy movies, boxing, and music in his downtime. But when Nate was up, he was out “rolling”. He enjoyed drives in his cars, a good concert, and “shindigs” with his friends and family. Nate was full of life until God called him home before our hearts were ready.

Nate's vibrant spirit and love for life were most evident in his relationships with his four children: Ann “Debbie” (Byrd) Simms, Nathaneil W. Byrd, Gregory Byrd, and Talaya Jordan. His 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. Nate's love extended beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of a host of family and friends. His memory will be cherished and he will truly be missed.

Nate was greeted at Heaven’s Gate by his parents, his wife, who was the love of his life, Mrs. Lula Mae (Tremble) Byrd, who passed away on August 11, 2015, after 57 years of marriage. Together they will embrace their infant daughter, Valerie Vernae Byrd, and Nate’s brothers, Arthur “June,” Norman, and William “Bill.”
