Mrs. Oria Delphine Lumpkin

Our dear mother and grandmother, Mrs. Oria Delphine Lumpkin, age 91, went on to her heavenly rest, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived a beautiful, blessed, and full life. Her life reflected love, laughter, and resilience, and she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the spice of her family’s life.

Mrs. Oria D. Lumpkin was born on November 27,1932, in Pelham, Georgia, daughter of Tom and Minnie Harrison. She moved to Youngstown, Ohio as a teenager, residing with her Aunt Jessie and Uncle Emmett, and eventually moved back to Pelham, Georgia. She met the love of her life, John F. Lumpkin, Sr. and they married on August 20, 1949.

She was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, in Youngstown, Ohio, where she originally joined under the leadership of Dr. E.F.E Rheins, which is currently under the leadership of Pastor Lewis Macklin. Mrs. Oria was a vested member and served in many capacities within the church. She was a president of the usher board, a chairwoman of many fundraisers, and one of the founding members of Women Working For God “WWG’s”. She was honored as “Queen of the Day” and was faithfully known as “Mother Lumpkin.”

Mrs. Oria worked alongside her husband as co-owner and operator of Pumpkin and Lumpkin Restaurant. With her passion in the restaurant business, she was also employed at Shots Restaurant and at Youngstown State University as a culinary assistant. She was heavily involved in the community as an active member in many organizations, such as Faith Chapter No. 690 O.E.S. of Youngstown, Ohio, National Grand Chapter, O.E.S., Scottish Rite Affiliation, Ladies of Excellence, The Twilighters Club, The Ambition Nine Group, and she was a former Worthy Matron of The Eastern Stars. She had membership with various other community clubs and groups.

Mrs. Oria Lumpkin was faithfully dedicated to her hobbies and friends. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, shopping, listening to music, watching basketball, as well as her ultimate favorite, spending money. And, no one will forget her infamous casino extravaganza trips with special friends and family.

She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched and the lessons she taught others. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Robert James “Squirt” Lumpkin, Jacqueline (Eugene) Garrett, John Frank “Larry” Lumpkin, Jr., Minnie Barbara Wiseman, Shirley “Pat” Torres, Kimberly Lumpkin Donlow; god-daughter, Janet Jenkins Johnson; her host of 23 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 31 great- great grandchildren; her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

She is also survived by her in-laws. affectionately known as her brothers and sisters, Julius (Dora) Lumpkin, Antonio Lumpkin, both of Georgia, Hettie Mae Jackson, Youngstown Ohio, Almaree (David) Laster, Portia Harvey, Rosetta Lumpkin, all of Georgia.

Mrs. Oria was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, great-great-grandson Kingston Solomon; nephews, Chris Harrison and Owen Huntley; son-in-laws, Courtney Wiseman and Hector Torres; sister Cora (Bobby) Huntley; brother, Charles “C.B.” Harrison; and siblings in love, Lincoln (Dorthy) Lumpkin, John “Phil” Henry Lumpkin, Jr., Eddie Lee (Robbie) Lumpkin, Natalie Lumpkin, Annette (Willie) Wright, Claretha Saffold, Lucille (Justin) Toombs; uncles, Robert Hopkins, Henry Harrison, Sylvester Harrison, Frank Harrison, Red Harrison, and Johnny Harrison; aunts, Mrs. Jessie Williams, Mrs. Carrie Thomas Bass, Mrs. Sophie Warren, Mamie Sue Willingham, Emma Bryant, Ruth Harrison, and Pitt Harrison; and god-sister Loureatha V. Wilson.

To commemorate her incredible journey and celebrate the love she spread among family and friends, we now honor her memory. We invite all who knew her to join with us in remembering our fashionista, a truly remarkable, fun, lovable, and zealous woman, Mrs. Oria D. Lumpkin.

Visitation will be held on Saturday October 19, 2024 from 9:00- 10:00 am at the L.E. Black, Phillips & funeral home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH with funeral service at 10:00 am
