Mr. James “Roy” Leftwich
Mr. James “Roy” Leftwich 74, transitioned from this life of labor to eternal rest on December 21, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Leftwich was born December 24, 1949 in Danville, Virginia to the late Petross C. and Fannie Kate Tarpley- Leftwich. James, who was affectionately known as “Roy”, was a 1967 graduate of North High School and attended Ohio State University for 2 years. Mr. Leftwich then attended Youngstown State University. James was a supervisor for TRW and then serving over 20 years as a police officer/ narcotics detective with the Cleveland Police Department until his retirement and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Cuyahoga County.
His hobbies included, Corvette car collecting, he loved all types of sports but was an avid Steeler fan, adored cooking and grilling, watching old westerns, Perry Mason, music from the 70’s and 80’s as well as having a vast record collection, “he really loved his music!” Lastly, he enjoyed yard work.
Mr. Leftwich leaves to cherish his memory as well as his legacy; a daughter, Angela (Leroy) Jackson of Youngstown; (1) brother, Russell (Grace) Leftwich; (2) sisters, Gladys and Helen Leftwich both of Cleveland, OH; a nephew, Cameron Leftwich and a niece, Charina Leftwich. He also had long time friends by the names of Royce and Deborah Few who were very dear to him as well as a host of cousins and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 9:00-10:00 am at L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am.
