Mr. Melvin J. Johnson, 84, of Youngstown, transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Mr. Johnson was born August 23, 1940 in Atlanta, GA, a son of James C. and Lillie Mae Sims Johnson. He was a graduate of The Rayen School and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. He had been employed as a custodian with Youngstown State University for 22 years, retiring in the early 2000’s. He had previously been employed for 16 years with L. T. V. Steel.
His wife, the former Audrey King, whom he married November 22, 1967 passed away May 4, 2022.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his dear friend Arthur Cornwell and his wife, Barbara; and other friends.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
His wife, Audrey, who passed away in 2022 will also be remembered at the memorial service with Melvin.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown.
Mrs. Audrey C. Johnson, 88, of Youngstown, transitioned to a better life on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
Mrs. Johnson was born July 6, 1933 in Newport News, VA. She worked in housekeeping at Macy’s Department Store. She was a former member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She was survived by her husband, Melvin Johnson, whom she married November 22, 1967. Melvin transitioned to meet Audrey on Monday, September 16, 2024.
She leaves three sisters, Connie Jackson, Elaine Hill and Prisella Kelley; two brothers, Worthy and Ernest King.
She was preceded in death by her parents; newborn daughter; sisters, Elevyn Banks, Shirley Johnson, Della Johnson; and a brother Cliff King.
