Mrs. Mary Ann Mitchell, 77, of Youngstown, departed this life on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at her home with her family at her side.
Mrs. Mitchell was born April 20, 1947, in Coosa County, Alabama, a daughter of Nathaniel and Anner Gaddis Hill. She was a 1965 graduate and class valedictorian of J. D. Thompson High School in Cottage Grove, Alabama; moving to Youngstown the following year to be closer to an older sibling. Mary worked for 31 years as an inspector for Delphi Packard Electric, retiring in 1999, and was a member of IEU-CWA. A loving Christian, she enjoyed gardening, plants and beautiful flowers. She and her husband received a number of accolades and awards for the beautification of their property from the City of Youngstown throughout the years, most recently a Youngstown City Scape Beautification Award in 2023.
She leaves to cherish her beloved memory and celebrate her life and legacy, her husband, Willie “Doc” Mitchell, whom she married June 8, 1968; a daughter, Jennifer M. Mitchell of South Euclid; a sister, Katherine Hill, and brother, Eddie Hill, both of Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Joy Lynn Mitchell; and seven siblings: Betty Hill, Christine Smith, Willow Dean Lain, Joseph Hill, Laurence Hill, Dorothy Harmon, and Rosie Smith.
Private services were held at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
The family is eternally grateful for the loving care and support provided by Compassus Hospice during Mary’s final weeks.
