Mrs. Mabel Milton, 90, of Youngstown transitioned to eternal peace on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mrs. Milton was born January 23, 1935 in Youngstown, a daughter of Willie and Gertrude Evans Brown. She was a 1953 graduate of East High School. She had been employed as a nutrition specialist with the Ohio State University – Mahoning County Extension Service for 27 years. She also had nutrition groups with the Gilead House, Hagstrom House, McGuffey Centre, Plaza View, Kimmel Brooks, Victory Center, People are Hurting, Day Break, Friendship Baptist Church and the Buckeye Elks. Mabel also worked with pregnant teens at East High and Rayen High Schools. She was also a volunteer with Jubilee Gardens. In addition to the fore mentioned activities, Mabel was also Booster Club president and a member of the Eastside Little Broncos Football Organization.
Mabel was a faithful and charter member of the Oak Baptist Church, its Church Mother, trustee, deaconess, and assistant to the Food Pantry and Food Give Away. She served until May 4, 2025. Among other things, Mabel enjoyed cooking, with her specialty being peach cobbler.
Mabel leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life and legacy, her daughter, Edith (Marion) Brown; her son, Stanley (Edith) Brown; her very special friends, Melvin and Deb Riley; Pastor Sylvia Jennings; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby who passed away February 26, 1989; two sons, Donald and Robert; a sister, Mildred Prather; and two brothers, Richard and Heyward Brown.
Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave., Youngstown. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
