Mrs. Lora Carter-Nickison, 65, of Youngstown, departed this life Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Lora was born July 30, 1960 in Youngstown, a daughter of Larson and Margretta C. Pierce. She was a 1978 graduate of Ursuline High and received her LPN certification from Choffin Career Center. Lora also went on to become a deputy sheriff and graduated from MTC-Ohio Basic Police Academy. She served with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years, retiring in 2017. Lora enjoyed purse collecting, shopping, thrifting, traveling, cooking, recipe book making, and casino trips. She was also an avid dog lover.
She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, her one and only daughter, Yazming R. Carter; her one, only and beloved granddaughter, Fenai Dior Carter both of Youngstown; and a host of family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marty A. Nickison.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, OH
