Kennon Mitchell Obituary

Mr. Kennon Lamar Mitchell, 45 of Youngstown, departed this life on Saturday December 21, 2024. Kennon, affectionately known as “Boom”, was born on February 2, 1979 in Youngstown, OH to Eula Marie Mitchell and Kenneth Atkinson. A decorated U.S. Arm Veteran, Specialist Kennon Mitchell served from 2002-2005. He was an 11 Bravo Infantryman, having completed basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia before serving in Korea & Kansas. He also completed a combat duty tour in Kuwait/Iraq.

            Specialist Kennon Mitchell achieved the following awards: Army Lapel Button/Army Achievement Medal/National Defense Service Medal/Global War on Terrorism Service Medal/Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal/Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon/Korea Defense Service Medal.

            Our beloved Boom was a proud father and fearless family man who loved his kids and family tremendously. He motivated his loved ones to strive for better and was a natural comedian, known for cracking jokes regularly and lifting people’s spirits. Boom was also a huge 49ers, Notre Dame & Ohio State fan.

            He leaves to cherish his memory, his father Kenneth Atkinson of The Villages, FL; his children, Breasia Mitchell, La’Teese Mitchell, Tristan Mitchell, Kennon Mitchell Jr., Kennon Mitchell II, DaMarkus Mitchell, Kamren Mitchell, and Prince Ahmad Mitchell all of Youngstown, OH; his brothers, Calvin Mitchell of Warren, OH, Danny (Fabiola) Mitchell of Boston, MA, Darius Mitchell of Rincon, GA and Kenneth Atkinson Jr. of Greensboro, NC; his sisters Chantel Blunt of Boardman, OH & Shyla (Wesley) Wilson of Pittsburg, PA; his uncles: Daniel Mitchell Jr., Robert (Mary) Taylor, and Anthony Taylor all of Youngstown, OH; his aunts: Barbara J. Smith of Boston, MA, Rebecca Mitchell of Rincon, GA (who was a 2nd mother to him), Evangelist Constance (Richard) Weaver, Brenda Mitchell and Patricia Davis all of Youngstown, OH, Barbara Taylor-Beauford of Atlanta, GA; 4 nieces, 2 nephews and a host of loving cousins and friends.

            He was preceded in death by his mother Eula Marie Mitchell, Grandparents Willa Mae Taylor & Daniel Mitchell Sr. and William Taylor; Great grandparents Jennie Lee & Oscar Hamilton and Thomas Wright; Uncles Bishop William Taylor and Michael Mitchell (who was a father figure to him); cousin Samuel Smith.

            Visitation will be  Friday, January 10, 2025 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm.
