Keith Madison Carter

Keith Madison Carter, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on June 20, 1959, in Youngstown, Ohio, Keith was the youngest of five children born to Marie and Lester Carter, Sr.

Keith was born with Down Syndrome, but he never let that define him. His joy for life was contagious, and his eagerness to connect with everyone he met, especially the ladies, was one of his most endearing qualities. For many years, Keith worked at the Mahoning County Adult Services Company (MASCO), where he took great pride in receiving his paycheck every two weeks.

Keith loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church services with his mother and brother, Lester Jr. He played the drums and guitar for many years at Lester’s church and was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Youngstown, Church in the Round in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and How Great Thou Art Gospel Church in Campbell, Oho.

For the last 13 years, Keith lived at Two Sisters Home, LLC, a loving and nurturing group home in Salem, Ohio. Surrounded by dedicated caregivers, especially Michelle, and many others who became constants in his life, Keith was deeply cherished and cared for. His gentle spirit, sense of humor, and kind heart made him beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Keith was a man of adventure, enjoying memorable trips to San Antonio, Texas, Washington, D.C., and St. Louis, Missouri. These travels, filled with joy and laughter, created cherished memories for his family and friends. Keith also loved to dance, and many fondly remember seeing him light up the dance floor.

Keith leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. He is survived by his sisters, Cynthia Hendrix of Hubbard, Ohio, and Janice Adams of Washington, D.C.; his brothers, Lester Carter, Jr. (Cassandra) of Youngstown, Ohio, and Sterling Carter of Spokane, Washington; along with 9 nieces, 3 nephews, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends. He will also be deeply missed by his second family at Two Sisters Home.

Preceded in death by his parents, Keith’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A celebration of Keith's life will be held at L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and the services will begin at noon. In honor of Keith, attendees are invited to wear the Down Syndrome colors of blue and yellow.

Keith will be laid to rest at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505.
