Karen S. Thomas, 73, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and a child of God, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.
Karen was born June 10, 1952 in Youngtown, Ohio, the daughter of Sylvester and Elsie (Mosley) Kellum. She was a lifelong resident. In her spare time, she was talented in arts and crafts and assisted with various Vacation Bible Schools. In addition, she was clever in solving math problems and was able to calculate the most difficult numbers in her head without using a calculator.
She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Janice Kellum Radney of Maryland, five children, whom she raised with great strength and power as a solo parent. She was a mother who nourished and took care of her children until they became prosperous adults. She made sure that her five children had everything they needed.
She is survived by her sons, Vincent (Donna) Thomas and Damon (Nanyere) Thomas both of Columbus; daughters, Erica Thomas of Tennessee, Dawn (Eugene) Lundy and Tiffani Thomas all of Youngstown. She also leaves to cherish a special care giver, Elizabeth Williams, who was always there for her. She leaves two nephews, Clayton Yandel of Maryland, and Byron (Alanda) Radney of Indiana. She was blessed to have four grandchildren, Toni Thomas of Struthers, Alexis Thomas, Damon Thomas, Jr. both of Columbus and Taylor Thomas of Youngtown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandbaby, infant Taylor Thomas; nephew, Keith Radney; and niece, Kimberly Radney-Yandel.
Our mother was a loving, funny and beautiful lady and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be heldl on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
