Mr. Joseph “Joe” Winkfield, Jr., transitioned from this earthly labor to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his home in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Joseph was born February 4, 1957 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Cremolia Herron Winkfield. Joseph was a 1975 graduate of South High School. He had been employed at the Mahoning County Country Club as server and cook, General Motors Lordstown, retiring in 2002.
Joseph was an avid sports fan, and played football and ran track in high school. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, watching westerns working on cars and spending time with his grandchildren. Joseph loved the Lord and would share the gospel with everyone he met.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life and legacy, his wife, the former Kelly Gearhart, of Clarksburg, WVA; a daughter, Shaundra Winkfield; and a son, Joseph Winkfield III both of Youngstown; a stepson, Michael Vickers of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Bre’Aunna Winkfield, Phantashia Freeman, Xavier Winkfield, Joseph Winkfield IV, Janita Winkfield, April Winkfield, Charisma Winkfield, Honestly Winkfield and Noriah Winkfield; two great grandchildren, Bryson Winkfield Oakley and Au’Bree Butler; three sisters, Phyllis (Rev. James) Mass of Youngstown, Jacalyn Turner of Moseley, VA and Sandra Love of Girard; a brother, Walter Winkfield of Youngstown; and uncle, Rev. James (Ruby) Herron of Westerville; sisters-in-law, Shelly Aldrick and Christina Hickkson; brother-in-law, Ronald Adkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his parents; and stepmother, Rhodia Winkfield, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta Adkins; brother, Rev. Michael Cox, and aunt, Juanita Robinson
Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2024 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd, Yo., OH. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m.
