Mr. Jerome “Pap” Underwood, 79, of Youngstown, transitioned from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Underwood was born January 14, 1946 in Youngstown, a son of Carl L. Sr. and Elizabeth Turner Underwood. He was a 1965 graduate of East High School. Jerome had worked as a mechanic with the Youngstown Street Department for 37 years, retiring in 2007. He was also owner/operator of Gerey’s Cleaning service for over 40 years. He was a member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church and the NAACP. He enjoyed walking, bowling, loved going to dinner, loved people and working. A gentleman who loved people, Jerome had a heart of gold and was always helping others. “Help ministry” was truly his gift and a calling on his life.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his wonderful life and carry on his legacy of peace and love, his devoted and loving wife, the former Brenda Y. Patton, whom he married July 20, 1968; two brothers Tyrone T. Underwood and Carl L. Underwood Jr. both of Youngstown; his furry companion, Malcolm X, II; half brothers, Ray (Brenda) Clark and Sanders (Bertha) Clark both of Youngstown; his in-laws, Sylvester (Juanell) Patton, Connie Harris, Darrell (Karen) Patton, David (Robin) Patton; godson, Robert Harden Jr.; a special neighborhood young man, Hawley Warren Jr.; a special niece Tisha (Antquan) Potts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many dear friends.
