Mr. James “Cadillac” Calwise, Jr., departed this life on Monday, June 1, 2026 at the Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield, Ohio.
Mr. Calwise was born September 2, 1948 in Greenwood, South Carolina, a son of James Sr. and Mary Jane Conway Calwise. He attended East High School, and was a member of the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. He had been employed as a bus driver with WRTA for 36 years, retiring in the early 2000’s. He enjoyed working on cars, and helping his family in whatever way he could; and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life and legacy, his children, Gail LeFlore, James Calwise III, Tiarla Calwise, Ontare Calwise, and Talisha Stanford; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his siblings, Eugenia Atkinson, Mary Calwise, Ruthie Stacy, Joseph Calwise, Alfonso Calwise, Evereen Calwise-Islam, Lorraine Calwise Queener, Vanessa Calwise West, Patricia Calwise Richardson, Angelina Calwise Harrison and Joe Nathan Calwise; and a host of other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Keith Tillis and Brian L. Calwise; and his siblings, Theresa Calwise Shumpert, Ernest Calwise, Emmanuel Calwise, Carol Ann Perkins and Nellie V. King.
His family celebrated his life in a private memorial service.
