James Allen Davis Sr. was born to Lula Joiner and James Davis in Union Springs, Alabama on December 21, 1932. He was raised by his paternal aunts and grew up surrounded by his brothers and sister. When he set out on his own, James made his way further south where he met Clara Mae Bibbs of Cantonment, FL. They were later married on February 15, 1969 in Warren, OH.
After moving to Ohio in 1969, James worked as a laborer at H. K. Porter in Warren, OH and later also worked for Laborers Local 935 in Warren until he retired after more than 30 years of service. He was also a dedicated member of the Freemasons’ Temple three decades.
James is survived by his daughter, Jannie Davis of Youngstown, OH; his sons, Ray Edler of Statesville, NC, Odell Edler of Pensacola, FL, Calvin Edler of Warren, OH, Michael Davis of Valdosta, GA, James Davis Jr. of Youngstown, Ohm, Torrianio Miller of Warren, OH, Jeffery Davis of San Diego, CA, and his brother, Jaes L. Davis of Youngstown; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Clara Bibbs Davis; his son, Joel Davis; his daughters, Carrie Edler and Fay Davis; his sister, Sarah Davis; and his brothers, Sam Davis, Jimmy Davis, Jessie Davis and Robert Davis.
