Ida Mae Hayes

            Mrs. Ida Mae Hayes, 91, of Youngstown transitioned from her earthly labor to her heavenly reward on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Park Vista Nursing Home.

            Mrs. Hayes was born July 31, 1934 in St. Clair, Alabama, a daughter of Will and Clara Jackson Hubbard.  She attended the Church Without Walls Global Ministries, under the pastorate of Elder George Moore.  Ida Mae, a licensed cosmetologist, was the owner operator of Ida’s Beauty Salon.  She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting and shopping. Ida Mae was a foster mother for many with the Mahoning County Children’s Services.

            She is survived by her daughter, Mae Emma (Bailey) Nicholson; four grandchildren, Tasha M. (Lorenzo) Miner, John J. Shelton III, Jacqueline T. and Marquel J. Lucas; son-in-law, Mark W. Lucas; sisters-in-law, Mirriam Hubbard, Gladys Wilson Marva Wilson, Carol Hayes and Dr. Louise Hayes; a brother-in-law, Norris Hayes; a very good and dear friend, Ms. Willie J. Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

            Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cladyes Hayes Jr., whom she married February 27, 1951 and who passed away October 11, 1985; her daughter, Jacqueline A. Lucas; seven brothers, Wesley, Will, Willie, Ben, Jim, George, and Eddie Lee; two sisters, Celie Moore and Georgia Cade.

            The family wishes to thank Park Vista and Harmony Hospice staff for the services they provided for our beloved mother and grandmother.

            Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 noon.  Elder George Moore will be officiating.
