Mr. Homean Charles Baxter, 78, of Youngstown, departed this life on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Mr. Baxter, affectionately known as “Butch”, was born July 30, 1947 in Youngtown, a son of Homer and Doris Cheatham Baxter. He was a 1966 graduate of The Rayen School, and had been employed with WFMJ, retiring after over 40 years of service. Mr. Baxter was a former member of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church. He was a member of the Pan-African Organization an Freedom, Inc. He loved photography, jazz music, western movies and bird watching.
He leaves to cherish he beloved memory, his twin sister, Doris Jean Drummond of Youngstown; a niece, Dwania Comer of Tempo, GA; two nephews, John Reese Comer and Ezell Heriot both of Youngstown; three greata nephews, Marcus Washinton of Liberty Twp., Marlon Booker of Tempo, GA, and Jaylin Robinson of Campbell; a great great niece, Kamara Chisum; dear friends, Pam Heroit, Isaac Williams, Vincent Shivers, Lawanna Walker-Lockett, Diane Palmer, Adullah Mustafa Ali, and Jackie Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Baxter; mother and stepfather, Doris and Nathaniel Douglas; and his brother, Nathaniel “Nate” Baxter.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, OH. 44505. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
