Hettie Mae Jackson

Mrs. Hettie Mae Jackson, 91, of Youngstown, departed this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Omni West Assisted Living.

            Mrs. Jackson was born April 30, 1933 in Camilla, GA, a daughter of John Henry and Julia Spence Lumpkin.  She was a graduate of Meigs High School.  She had been employed as a breakfast and lunch aide at several locations of the Youngstown City Schools.  She had also worked in the Budget Department of Mahoning County Jobs and Family services, retiring in 1973.  Hettie was a former member Tabernacle Baptist Church, its Mass Choir, Usher and Nurse’s Ministries.  She lastly belonged to the Morning Star Baptist Church, serving on its Usher Ministry and Sunday School Department.

            Her husband, James E. Jackson, whom she married on June 16, 1961, passed away December 8, 2010.

            She leaves to cherish her memory; three sisters, Almaree (David) Laster, Rosetta Lumpkin and Portia Harvey all of Albany, GA; two brothers, Julius (Dora) Lumpkin of Kathleen, GA and Antonio Lumpkin of Conyers, GA; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;  nieces who cared for her, Gloria (Lester) Martin of Howland, Gwendolyn (Damon) Griggs of Youngstown and Melvy Stroughn who was like a sister to her of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

            Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two stepsons, James E. Jackson and Edwin A. Jackson; siblings, Mamie Sue Walker, Annette Wright, Claretha Saffold, Lucille Toombs, John H. Lumpkin, Lincoln Lumpkin, Eddie Lumpkin, John Frank Lumpkin.

            Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Road, Youngstown, OH.  Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon.
