Mr. Herman Dail McDavid, Sr., 82, of Youngstown, transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Mr. McDavid was born May 19, 1943 in Macon, Mississippi, a son of Harold Sr. and Pearl McDavid. He was a 1961 graduate of Nouxbee High School. He had been employed with General Motors Lordstown for 32.5 years, retiring in 2002. Preacher/Steward McDavid was a member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, its Steward Board, usher, and was in the choir. He ministered to the sick and shut-ins. He was a fantastic singer, enjoyed landscaping, grilling, traveling, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers.
He leaves to mourn his passing, and to celebrate his life and legacy, his beloved wife, the former Ann R. Shields, whom he married January 3, 1967; his son, Herman “Dail” McDavid of Youngstown; his daughter, Lisa D. McDavid of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; a grandson, Christopher Whitfield-McDavid of Ft. Wayne, IN; his siblings, Harold (Lula) McDavid of Campbell, Fannie McDavid Jones of Memphis, TN, Robert McDavid of Macon, MS; sisters-in-law, Velma McDavid of Washington, DC and Mildred McDavid of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louis C. and Emma McDavid, Thomas, Clifford, Claude, Bennie, George, Lonnie, and Howard McDavid, Maude McDavid Tate and Audrey McDavid Tate.
Visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2025 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Price Memorial AME Zion Church Celebration of Life services will follow at 3:00 p.m.
