Henry "Hank" Stennis, Jr.

Henry Stennis Jr., affectionately known as “Hank,” was born on May 21, 1945, in Lincoln County, Arkansas, to Henry Stennis Sr. and Eliza Stennis Wade.  Henry passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at Washington Square Nursing Facility in Warren, Ohio.

 Henry proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting on September 21, 1965. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and was discharged on September 18, 1967. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve at the Naval Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland, until his final discharge on November 9, 1969.  Following his military service, Henry returned to Youngstown, Ohio, where he worked for several companies before beginning a long and dedicated career with General Motors at the Lordstown Fabrication Plant in 1976.  After more than 35 years of service, he retired in 2011 as a forklift driver.

Henry lived a full and joyful life. He was an avid bowler. He participated in many bowling leagues for many years, most notable, the Southern Tavern Bowling League. He also enjoyed golfing with the Yogo Golf League. Henry had a deep love for music, especially jazz, and found joy in fishing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted and loyal Cleveland Browns fan

In 1985, Henry met the love of his life, Golie Christian. The two were united in marriage on May 24, 1991. Together, they built a strong and loving family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Golie; three sons: Tyrone Wright Sr., Terry Wright Sr. (Aracely), and Stephen Taylor Sr. (Patrick); two daughters: Lashawn Taylor and Tina Wright; and eight grandchildren: Nickell Summers, Sasha Wright, Tyrone Wright Jr., Terry Wright Jr., Stephen Taylor Jr., Cierra Young, Tyterieon Wright, and Chris Wright. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Robinson; his brother, Dr. Leon Stennis, PhD; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family Henry Stennis Jr., affectionately known as “Hank,” was born on May 21, 1945, in Lincoln County, Arkansas, to Henry Stennis Sr. and Eliza Stennis Wade.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Anna Mae Davis, Betty Lou Stennis, and Mozell Lever.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Avenue, Youngstown.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Henry will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He had a unique way of making those around him feel comfortable, valued, and at home.
