Helen Louise Jackson
On October 22, 2024, God sent one his precious angels down to escort one of His beautiful creations to her mansion, Helen Louise Jackson, 102 years young.
Helen Jackson was born October 15, 1922 in Girard, Ohio a daughter of the late Bertram and Leona Huffman. Helen was a mother to one son, Weyman “Fricky” Jackson Jr.
She attended North Avenue Elementary School from kindergarten through sixth grade, and the remainder of her education at Girard High School. Helen was an avid bowler for years, traveling around the country with a tournament league.
She lived a life many aspire to, yet with longevity comes the inevitable heartache of witnessing the loss of loved ones. She was the youngest of five siblings, mother of one, a mother-in-law, and additionally, she was a joyful grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great-grandmother.
During World War II, Helen contributed to the war effort by working at the Ravenna Arsenal, where she played a vital role in weapon production. As she progressed through her young adulthood, she held various positions, including roles at the Luggage Company and the Youngstown Bus Arcade. In 1955, she began her long and distinguished career at Strouss, from which she retired after an impressive thirty-five years of dedicated service. It was there where she was initially employed as a cafeteria worker, working her way up to a seamstress before retiring.
An enthusiastic card player, Helen particularly enjoyed the game of Bid Whist. Above all, she cherished her faith in God, her family, and her unwavering support for the Cleveland Indians. She also absolutely loved going to the casino, traveling, and shopping at her favorite store, Walmart. There was never to be grass under feet because she was always on the move. At the age of 100 years old, Helen still managed to cook dinner for her son and daughter-in-law. Majority of the time she didn’t want to use her cane because “it makes me look old” she remarked! As per her family’s response, “News flash, you’re over 100, which classifies you as old!”
Helen leaves to mourn yet leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories; a son, Weyman “Fricky” Jackson and daughter-in-law, Shirley B. Jackson; (4) grandchildren, (16) great-grandchildren, and (5) great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and (5) siblings; Juanita Saunders, Mabelle Barnette, George Womack, and Albert Huffman.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday November 2, 2024. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 pm with memorial services to begin at 3:00 pm.
