Gloria Elaine Tinsley Kelley gained her spiritual wings on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.
Gloria was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Atan and Herbert G.W. Tinsley, Sr., who preceded her in death.
Her love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did. She was passionate about sewing, cooking from scratch and spending quality time with her loved ones. She also enjoyed playing Rook cards and board games, always cherishing the moments spent with her dear ones.
She was a proud graduate of Struthers High School class of 1961. She later married Alphonso Kelley on July 20, 1963. From their union Tavia A. Kelley was born. Gloria's dedication to her work was unwavering. She worked for over 25 years with Head Start families through MYCAP (Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Program) and later as a social service worker. She received a social work certificate from Youngstown State University and ultimately retired in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment.
Gloria was a faithful member of Temple Emmanuel SDA Church and served in many church groups and organizations, including the ‘Faith’ choir director, youth choir director and administrator of the church’s Co-Op store. She is known for the various legendary church plays she directed and for her Bible study sessions. Gloria loved to fellowship with her family and friends over delicious home-cooked potlucks whenever possible.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Tavia Atan Kelley, granddaughter T’Andria Bethel, great-grandson TayVion Beale (Columbus, OH), her favorite nephew and niece Ed Cox and
Elizabeth Cox, her only brother Herbert G.W. Tinsley Jr., nephew ‘Little Herbie’, great niece
Tonisha Villanueva, great-great niece Trinnity, lifetime friends, extended caregivers, Anne
Jones and a host of church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce D. Cox and great nephew Richard Villanueva.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at Temple Emmanuel SDA Church. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m., and services will follow at noon.
