Mrs. Geraldine McClendon Washington, 89, of Boardman, transitioned to eternal peace on Monday, June 17, 2024.
Mrs. Washington was born October 16, 1934 in Youngstown, a daughter of Samuel and Grace Lewis Phillips. She was a graduate of North High School. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had worked with Visiting Nurses for 20 years, retiring in 2000. Geraldine was a former member of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed reading, crafts, gardening, baking, cooking, artwork, bingo, puzzles and shopping. Her passion, however, was being with her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life and legacy, two sons, Patrick N. McClendon of Denver, CO, and Benjamin (Marci Jones) McClendon of Youngstown; her daughter-in-law, Migdalia “Maggie” McClendon of Boardman; 10 grandchildren, including Tawni McClendon whom she helped to rear; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by; two sons, Anthony and Michael McClendon; her sister, Grace Hammonds; two brothers, Samuel and Richard Phillips; and a granddaughter, Danielle Joyce Nicole McClendon.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Tabernacle Blvd., Youngstown. A Celebration of Life service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m.
