We celebrate the life and home going of Mr. Eugene Fleeton who was born in Youngtown, Ohio on March 11, 1955, and passed away, Thursday, June 4, 2026, while in the care of Park Vista Nursing Home in Youngstown.
Mr. Fleeton was a lifelong Youngstown resident. He was the youngest of six children born to Mose Fleeton Sr. and Lillie Mae Hopkins Fleeton. Mr. Fleeton, graduated from East High School and was recruited by Youngstown State University to play basketball. After graduation, he served in the United States Army. He was a self-employed painter. He loved basketball, and had been standout basketball player at East High School. He enjoyed other sports as well as cooking and grilling. He coached the Jaguars Track team in Youngstown. He was a former member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Janeiro Mathews of Columbus, OH and Carla Stubbs of Youngstown. Also to mourn his passing is his two sisters, Ms. Patricia Fleeton and Mrs. Lillian Smith of Memphis, TN; his cousins, Ms. Latasha Tucker and Ms. Carlotta Denise Davenport, both of Youngstown, who provided care during his illness. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Mose Fleeton Jr., Willie James Fleeton, and Karl Fleeton.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Morris Chapel CME Church, 6930 Highway 195, Somerville, TN 38068.
