Earlis Mack Obituary

Earlis was born October 31, 1941 in Victoria, MS; a daughter of Henderson and Elisa Scott Cannon. She was raised by her grandmother, Martha Clayton Cannon, and attended Humphrey High school in MS. She was united in marriage to Earnest Mack on July 16, 1957 and relocated to Youngstown, OH.

Earlis joined The Greater Friendship Baptist Church, July 2, 1961 under the pastorate of the late Rev. B. J. Myers. She was a faithful member of the church, Willing Workers, Gregory Circle Mission, the former Miriam Choir and Sr. Choir and the Culinary Ministry.

Earlis graduated from the nursing division of Choffin Career Center and received her LPN license from the State of Ohio. She was employed as an LPN for Mahoning County Nursing Home for 20 years and employed by the former Sears Roebuck Co. for 15 years, retiring from both in 1983.

Earlis was a member of the NAACP, AFSCME Retiree Union, PERS, Feed the Children 1000 Club for over 15 years and a lover of cats.

Earlis leaves to mourn her soft demeanor, godchildren/caregivers Jonie (Keith) Brooks, of Houston, TX with whom she last resided; Johndalyn Turner of Indianapolis, IN; Darlaina I. Thomas of Youngstown, OH; Felicia Y. Thomas of Tampa, FL and Gordon Sanders of Houston, TX. She also leaves nephews Andrew (Saran) Cannon, Jr.; Donnie Cannon, and Malichi Cannon; nieces Joanie Cannon, Alishia Denise Cannon-Tony, Alyssa Sunshine Cannon and Angelica Lanae Cannon all of Memphis, TN. A special nephew Derrick “Reno” Heard of Columbus, OH and nieces Betty “Jean” Joyner and Gayle Jefferson of MS.

Preceding Earlis in death are her parents, grandmother, husband, a sister, Louise Jefferson of Red Bank, MS ad three brothers; Lawrence E., Robert E., and Andrew (Jennie Mae) Cannon, Sr. a special cousin Clarise Whitmore of Memphis, TN and her furry friend Lucky Mack.

Visitation will be Monday, June 15, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
