Mrs. Dorothy Jean Johnson-Smith, 86, of Youngstown entered eternal rest on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital surrounded by family.
Mrs. Johnson-Smith, lovingly known as “Dot”, was born July 4, 1939 in Dothan, Alabama, a daughter of Taylor T. and Beulah Thomas Johnson. She was a 1957 graduate of East High School and received her STNA from Omni . Dorothy, a devoted homemaker, was a member of Union Baptist Church. She was former social committee co-chairperson at Edgewood Apartments. She had also been employed with J. C. Penney. Dorothy enjoyed pottery, sewing, bingo and playing cards.
She leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life and legacy, her son, Darrell (Angie) Smith of Philadelphia, PA; her daughter, Deatrice (Tyrone) Traylor of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and dear friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Smith; a daughter Erica Smith; and six brothers, Sam, Taylor, Louis, Paul, Clarence, James and one sister Annie Jewel King.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44502. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
