Denise Annette Davis-Pusey

With profound love and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the homegoing of Mrs. Denise Annette Davis-Pusey, affectionately known as "Dip," age 70, of Youngstown, Ohio. She peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.

Born on April 11, 1954, in Youngstown, Ohio, Denise was the beloved daughter of Andrew and Juanita Mae Winlock-Davis. Her life was a radiant example of compassion, service, and unwavering love for her family and community. She dedicated 30 years of her career as a Case Manager with Mahoning County Job and Family Services, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and tireless advocacy for those in need.

Denise was a proud graduate of The Rayen School. Committed to lifelong learning, she furthered her education at Youngstown State University (YSU), where she deepened her skills and passion for serving her community.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church, she embodied kindness and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Denise’s commitment to service extended far beyond her church community. She was a proud and active member of The Youngstown (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a former N.A.A.C.P. member, and a chairperson for multiple organizations. As an Executive Board member, she championed causes with compassion and unwavering advocacy beyond her immediate circle.

Denise embraced life with a joyful and giving spirit. She had a natural gift for creating beauty, which was reflected in her love for sewing, cooking, and music. Family gatherings were made even more special by her warm presence, delicious meals, and infectious laughter. She found joy in traveling with loved ones, attending church services, and rooting passionately for her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her heart and home were always open to family and friends, making all feel welcomed and loved.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and faith that will continue to inspire those she touched. Denise is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Tawana E. Pusey, whom she married on November 5, 1979. Her memory is a guiding light for her three cherished children, Alicia (William) Cornwell, Ameerah Pusey, and Jawwaad Pusey, all of Youngstown, Ohio. Her nurturing spirit lives on in her five grandchildren, British and Dontre (whom she lovingly reared), Asherah, Rasheed, and Amir, along with her beloved step-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her five great-grandchildren, Joelle, Brielle, Dontre Jr., Xavier, and London.

Denise’s love and compassion also extended to her siblings, Audrey (Jose) Morales and Angela D. James, both of Youngstown. Her family—including her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, church family, and friends—will forever hold her close in their hearts. Her home was a sanctuary of love, joy, and acceptance, and her spirit will continue to dwell in the lives of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Juanita Mae Winlock-Davis; her grandparents, Dorothy Powell, William Earl Winlock (Catherine Winlock), James W. Davis, and Mattie McAllister (Titus McAllister); her stepson, Tawana Hymes; and her close cousins, Sandra Winlock-Mack, Faye McCain and more.

A celebration of her beautiful life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44507. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 noon, as family and friends gather to honor Denise’s incredible legacy of love, faith, and compassion.
