Della Austin Obituary

Mrs. Della Mae Austin, 90, of Youngstown, transitioned from this earthly labor to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with her beloved daughter and family at her side.

Mrs. Austin was born January 1, 1935 in Sandersville, Georgia, a daughter of George J. and Minnie L. Warthen Harris.  Della was a 1952 graduate of South High School and attended tailoring school in Youngstown.   Della had been employed for 25 years with Delphi Packard Electric, retiring in 1994.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church and loved the Lord.  She was a true entrepreneur and was part owner/operator of J & D Boutique which was located on Market Street for many years.  She was a fashionista and took pride in purchasing exquisite merchandise for her customers as well as for herself.   Due to the fact that she had attended tailoring school, one of her many enjoyable pastimes was sewing.  She also enjoyed traveling and shopping.

She leaves to forever hold dear her memories, her devoted daughter, Kim Marie Moses of Youngstown; two grandsons, Michael (Molly) Moses of Columbus and Scott (LeRonica) Moses of Newport News, VA; four great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Xavier, Canaan and Carsen; god children, Darryl Royal and Angel Comer special cousins Catherine Patterson, Patsy Price and Mae Graham; a host of nieces, nephews, other family, church family and friends.  Special friends, Jessie Maxwell who was also her business partner, Randall Nuby Sr. and Harry Clinkscales

Waiting to greet her at Heaven’s gate were her parents; her husband, George “Bucky” Austin, whom she married February 12, 1956 and who passed away March 21, 1989; her siblings, George Harris Jr., Olla Cook, Arthur Harris and Henry Harris; her son-in-law, Michael Moses Sr.; and godson, Eric Brown.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., Youngstown.  A celebration of life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.  The services will be live streamed at:  Union Baptist Church Youngstown on both Facebook Page and You Tube Channel

The family would like to thank the Austinwoods Health Care Center Assisted Living staff and van drivers who showed their love, care and concern for her, as well as Ketchen, nurse Kimberly, the special daytime shift aide who talked and spent time with her at Austintown Health Care.  “Thank you all so very much”.

Ministry of comfort, love and dignity entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
