Mr. Charlie Jones, Sr., 82, of Youngstown, departed this life Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born October 2, 1942 in Atlanta, GA, a son of Robert Jr. and Eunice Pyron Jones. He was a 1961 graduate of The Rayen School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Youngstown State University. He had been employed as a correction officer with the State of Ohio, retiring after 11 years of service. Prior to working with the state, he had been employed with Eastern Mental Health for 21 years. Charlie was a U. S. Army veteran. He was committed to helping youth and served as a mentor. Charlie also loved taking pictures to capture special moments. His favorite scripture was, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, and to celebrate his life and legacy, his devoted wife, the former Mae Ella Carter, whom he married November 6, 1971; three children, Glenda R. Porter of Tulsa, OK, Shea D. (Rashan) Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Charlie (Nichelle) Jones, Jr. of Waldorf, MD; three grandchildren, Kenyari, Kym and Kayla; two sisters, Carolyn (Jesse) Harris and Arlena (Rev. Nathaniel) Lofton both of Youngstown; and a host of loving family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Bob” Jones, III, William “Pep” Jones, George Jones and Larry Jones.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.
