Carmelita “Carm” Douglas was born April 9, 1947 in Youngstown, Ohio daughter of James W. Sr and Valentina Gutierrez Williams. She was a 1965 graduate of Ursuline High School, and Youngstown State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education.
Carm retired in 2017 as the Executive Director of Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority. Prior to working for Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, she was the drug elimination program coordinator for the Allegheny County Housing Authority in Pittsburgh, PA. In the late 80’s and early 90’s she served as the President and CEO of the San Diego Urban League where she was a prominent advocate for the local community, often representing the organization in civic matters regarding charitable and community initiatives.
Carm had a very outgoing personality and had a love for her family, especially her mother, Valentina who she cared for until the ripe old age of 110. She also was caregiver for her brothers Henry (Hank) and James (Chico) Williams Jr. She enjoyed time with her family, loved shopping and hanging out with” her girls” Beverly and Nora.
She is survived by her son, Bruce (Cecilia) Douglas Jr., grandchildren, Stephanie (Marco) Marquez, Dan Hughes, Deanna Hughes, Kristen Douglas and Antonio Douglas of San Diego,CA, great-grandchildren, Emily, Addison and Zara. Sisters, Coralia Williams (Harvey) Keye of Nashua, NH; Constancia Williams (Roger) Raines of Cleveland, OH and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Carm is preceded in death by her father and mother ,James Williams Sr., and Valentina Gutierrez Williams,; Conchita Hill, sister; Henry Williams, brother; James Williams Jr, brother; sister-in-law Nora Brownlee Williams; brother-in-law, John Hill and husband Bruce Douglas Sr.
A service will be held at Tod Homestead Cemetery on Saturday April 11, 2026 at 11:00a.m.
