Mr. Brian Keith Watkins, 56, of Spartanburg, South Carolina departed this life on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, SC.
Mr. Watkins was born September 21, 1966 in Jasper Alabama, a son of Collis (George) Watkins Jr. and Barbara Nell W. Clements. He was a 1985 graduate of The Rayen School. He was a part of the Home Boys social club during his high school years. Brian had the opportunity of attending high school in Fairfield, Al also. Brian enjoyed drawing, playing the drums and socializing with his family and friends. He had professional work skills as a carpenter. He was most recently employed as a General Laborer with Spartanburg Steel Plant and prior employment with Spartanburg Bakery Plant. He often showed off his skills cooking up southern meals. He loved soul food coming from a family of women that would always have a hot meal waiting. He also enjoyed watching old school shows “What's Happening & That’s My Mama” sitcoms and his favorite old school kid show “Fat Albert” plus Western movies. Brian had an old soul indeed and confessed Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age. He was an avid Atlanta Falcons fan where he spent the majority of his adult years in Georgia after high school later relocating to South Carolina in 2013.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in his eternal peace seven children, Mister Jackson of Pennsylvania, Chad Cook of South Carolina, Ashley Callaway, Brian Callaway, Aysiah Jenkins, Indya Williams and Corey Callaway all of Atlanta and Riverdale GA;
14 grandchildren; his siblings, Roderick Wilson Leonard Sr., Cory M. Watkins, and George R. Clements II all of Columbus, Regina (Darin Sr.) Taylor of Youngstown, Sean C. Watkins of McDonald, Paternal siblings, Consuello(Demetrius Brewer) Washington and LaShandra (Tavares) Hill both of Fairfield, Alabama; Two aunts Susie Matthews and Yvonne Hill also an Uncle, James Hollis all of Fairfield, AL and numerous Nieces, Nephew, Great-Nieces/ Great-Nephews, Cousins and friends. A very special lady that he loved dearly, Ms. Shedenna Boatwright of Youngstown.
Brian was preceded in death by his loving parents waiting at heaven's gates; a paternal brother, Derick Jones; grandparents, Nellie (Madear) Watkins, Collis (Rosie) Watkins Sr. and Ovella Stewart Billups & Willie Mack. Also a newborn niece.
Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2023 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Celebration of Life following at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home. Due to the pandemic, guests are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing.
