Lady Betty Jean Oliver, 70, of Youngstown, transitioned from this earthly tabernacle to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic.
Mrs. Oliver was born May 31, 1955 in Pittsburgh, PA., a daughter of Thomas and Johnnie Mae Joiner Oliver. She was a 1973 graduate of South High School and received her Associate Degree from Youngstown State University. She had been employed as a Surgical Tech at St. Elizabeth Hospital and as a Paraprofessional with Stambaugh Charter Academy before retiring in February of 2025.
Betty was a member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church where she was baptized and filled with the Holy ghost. Lady Betty loved to sing, she was a WORSHIPPER to her bones!!!!! She sang in the Concert Choir, participated with Women’s Ministry, served in the ministry of prayer and intercession. While her husband pastored in Toledo, OH she was a dedicated and faithful First Lady. Betty loved her family !!!!
She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, shopping, traveling and the outdoors. A kind, loving, caring and thoughtful person she was willing to help others.
She leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life and legacy, her beloved husband of 45 yrs Pastor John L. Oliver, whom she married March 21, 1981; six children, Rev. John- Michael (Rachelle) Oliver of Youngstown, Christa Oliver-Torres of Raleigh, NC, Jessica Spurlock of Copley, Jan’e (Rev.Michael) Scott of Austin, TX, Jerrica Oliver of Austintown, and Jeremy (Marissa) Oliver of Atlanta, GA; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her siblings, Barbara Perry Clark of Manhattan, NY, Estelle (James) Boone, James Perry, and Rachel (Daniel) Mitchell all of Youngstown, and Thomas (Gail) Perry of Kennesaw, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, including LaToya & Duane Perry whom she helped to rear, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by grandmother Amanda (Big Momma) Spencer, her parents and siblings; Julius Lorenzo Joiner, Harold (Bubba) Joiner, Arnetta (Nita) Perry, and Gladys (Tat) Perry.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church, 1812 Oak Hill Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44507. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
