Betty Ann Bowens

            Mrs. Betty Ann Bowens, 79, of Youngstown, transitioned to her eternal home on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Hospice House with her loving family at her side.

            Mrs. Bowens, was born July 13, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of Sylvester and Grace Young Howell.  She was a 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.  Betty was a devoted homemaker and a self-employed seamstress.  She was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.  She enjoyed social cards, cooking, soap operas, and old western movies.  Her passion, however, was caring for her grandchildren.  Her words to live by are “Go to school; get a diploma; get a job, and make a living. Be independent !!!”

            Betty leaves to cherish her beloved memory her husband of 32 years, Kenneth whom she married August 17, 1991; four children, LeChelle (Arvin) Irizarry, Charles J. Lawrence, Lou Lawrence, and Claudia Lawrence all of Youngstown; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Lawrence of Canfield; her brother, Roosevelt Howell of Sacramento, CA; 10 grandchildren, Angeliq, Danielle, Daniel, Nico, Brett, Breanne, Aurielle, Donavan, Laila and Raina; her best friend, Vickie Jones; and a host of great grandchildren, other family and friends.

            Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Lawrence; and siblings, Sylvester Howell and JoAnn Howell

            Visitation will be Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Avenue, Youngstown.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.
