Services will be 11:00am Tuesday September 25, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman Street for Mrs. Barbara J. Gurley-Milton 79, who transcended to her heavenly home from Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 19, 1938 in Youngstown a daughter of Godfrey and Exie Reed Gurley. She was a graduate of The Rayen High School and had attended Choffin Career Center. She had been employed as a nursing assistant at St. Elizabeth for over 37 years retiring in 2001. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She was a member of the Holley Club and loved playing Bingo and socializing with friends and family.
She leaves to mourn her passing and to rejoice in her peace and legacy, her husband James, whom she married June 14, 1983; her children Paul John Robbins of Cleveland, Kim (Clarence) Howell of Youngstown, Edwina (James) Winphrie and Natalie Robbins Foster both of Columbus, Curtis Jones and Carmen Wilson of Youngstown, and David (Donna) Wilson of Columbus; six step-children James Jr., Quincy; Barbara Ann, Yvette, Harold and Charles Milton; a sister Myrtle Godfrey-Grier of Youngstown; 24 grandchildren including a grandson whom she reared Melvin Wilson of Cleveland; 18 great-grandchildren, a special nephew whom she reared Vernon Gurley Jr., a host of other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Bessie Johnson, Robbie Lucky, Mae Godfrey Graham and Helen Ruth Bryant, a son-in-law Markeith Foster; a grandson Taquan Wilson; a great grandson Jermon Hines and a great-granddaughter Shiliah D. Jones. Friends may call one hour prior to the services 10-11:00am at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
