Amos Haynes Obituary

            Mr. Amos Mitchell Haynes, 74, of Youngstown, departed this life on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at his home, with his loving family at his side.

            Mr. Haynes was born July 4, 1951 in Opelika, Alabama, a son of Lillie G. Lenton Haynes.  He was a 1970 graduate of North High School where he received a basketball scholarship, and attended YSU and Penn Ohio Jr. College.  He had been employed with General Fireproofing until its closing, and worked with R G Steel for over 25 years, retiring in 2009.

            Amos was a professional boxer and had won 3 times with the Golden Gloves.  He was owner/operator of the 541 Club.  Amos enjoyed all sports, social cards, provided funding for back to school supplies for children, and was an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

            He leaves to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in the peace he now has and cherish his life and legacy, his devoted beloved wife, the former Betty “ReCee” Engram, whom he married October 26, 2018; four children, Sean McRae, Damon McRae and Amos (Tiffaney) Haynes II all of Youngstown, and Anthony (Monique) Abrons of Columbus; 26 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; siblings, Juanita Demonbreun Haynes and Russell Brown both of Cleveland, Lorenzo (Wealtha) Haynes, Etha (Charlie) Brown, Lorenda Haynes, Elizabeth Hodge, Delores Smith and June Sellers all of Columbus, Oge (Verlynn) Britt and Paralee Brown (Renault) Turner both of Youngstown, Anthony Haynes of Canfield, and Henry Clark of Opelika, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

            Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, De’Aundre Abrons; and siblings, Wardell Clark, Joseph Kindred, Katie Hugley, Charles Shorter and Sallie Clark.

            Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2026 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, and on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., Youngstown.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.
