Amir Hakeem Obituary

Mr. Amir Lamont Hakeem Sr., 54, of Youngstown, peacefully transitioned from this life on Sunday, February 16, 2025 in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Hakeem was born November 24, 1970, a son of Ahmad Hakeem and Minnie Rose Thompson.  He was a 1989 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School where he was active in their football program.  In 1998, John Taylor, husband to Minnie, stepped in as a mentor, confidant and father figure, which created an eternal bond.  Amir was baptized in 1983 at the Union Baptist Church.  He was a member and tither at both Calvary and Tri-C Baptist Churches.  He was presently employed with the Trivium Packaging Company in Youngstown, and worked as a security guard at Christ Centered Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Madden’s Bar and Grill.  Amir was an avid and “die-hard” Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  However, Amir’s prize possession and passion was his family.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to mourn his passing, and to cherish memories of his life and legacy, his mother, Rev. Dr. Minnie Rose (John) Thompson-Taylor; his father, Ahmad Hakeem; children Courtney (Brian) Grace, Amir Hakeem Jr., Aaliyah, Aaniyah, Amira Hakeem; sisters, Andrelita “Angie” (Bryan) Paramore and Karyn Hakeem; his niece who was raised with him like a sister, Shaiyla Hakeem; grandchildren, Dominic, Ava, Aalani; nieces Maraiya (Raymond) Hakeem Daye, Karson and Karis Hakeem; nephew Trelan Barron; and a host of cherished family members, close friends, and acquaintances.

He was welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, Charlie Sr. and Minnie Bell Thompson; uncle, Charlie Thompson Jr.; and younger brother, Ahmad Mitchell Hakeem.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Christ Centered Church (Tri-C), 3300 Hudson Ave., Youngstown.  A celebration of his life will follow at 12:00 noon.

Ministry of comfort, love and dignity entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
