Allen B. Martin Sr.

August 11, 1931 – December 28, 2024

Allen B. Martin Sr., 93, peacefully passed away on December 28, 2024, in Boardman, Ohio, surrounded by the care of Andrae’ Martin. Born on August 11, 1931, in Coffee Creek, Arkansas, to Joseph Martin and Hattie Lee Hayward-Blockson, Allen lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, full of love and purpose. Allen dedicated 44 years of his career to the Steel Mill before retiring and later served 10 years with the Youngstown School District. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the military for four years. Allen was a pioneer, becoming one of the first African Americans to move into Austintown, where he resided for 48 years until he departed this earth. Allen accepted Christ at an early age and lived his life as a man of faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Known for his sense of humor, his favorite saying, “Come here, gal,” brought joy to those around him. A gentle and kind soul, Allen’s presence was a source of love and laughter. He cherished spending time with his family and was passionate about hunting and fishing. Allen leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories

● His son, Marvin Martin of Youngstown, OH. ● His daughters, Cherol Martin of Àustintown, OH, Gail Fordham, and Clarissa King Andrews, both of Youngstown, OH. ● His sister, Jacqueline Graves-Marks (Eric Marks) of Margate, FL. ● Nineteen grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. ● His best friend, Richard “Uncle Dickie” Howell. ● A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Allen was welcomed into eternal rest by those who preceded him, including: ● His wife Ora King Martin ● His parents, Joseph Martin and Hattie Lee Hayward- Blockson. ● His grandchildren: Ashley Martin Bell Reynalds, Mylan Centrayl Martin, Chester Martin and Anthony Martin ● His children: Sara Martin, Regina Ruthann Martin, Dianne Gordon, Lesha Hood, and Allen B. Martin Jr. ● His nephew: Dennis Harvard ● His beloved aunts, Bernice Graves (Aka Red) and Helen Graves (Aka Verg). ● His cherished uncles, Lawrence Graves and Walter Graves.

Allen’s legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.

.Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm at L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
