Allen received his education from the Youngstown Public School system. He attended Grant Elementary, Hillman Junior High and was a 1955 graduate of South High School. After graduating from high school, Allen proudly served 4 years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in1959. After Allen’s military service, he returned to Youngstown, Ohio where he met and married Juanita Ross and to that union 3 children were born. Allen was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube but found his home with Kraft Foods where he worked for 25 years before retiring. Allen left Youngstown, Ohio after his retirement and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but after a year he relocated to Danville, Virginia. He lived in Danville, Virginia for 10 years before he decided to move to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to his children. Allen resided in Columbus, Ohio for 20 years until his transition.
Allen’s spiritual foundation was formed during his childhood years when he would walk down the street to participate in Sunday School at Third Baptist Church in Youngstown and then catch the bus to join his mother for church service at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Hazelton. He did this every Sunday until he left home to join the military. The seeds that were planted and watered during his formative years came to fruition when he accepted Jesus Christ the day before his death.
Allen was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. When he wasn’t watching sports, he enjoyed spending time at the Gillie Senior Center, reading, listening to jazz, playing chess & pool and playing cards with family.
