Alfonso Robinson

Mr. Alfonso Robinson, 94, of Youngstown, departed this life on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Hospice House with his loving family at his side.

Mr. Robinson affectionately known as “Pap”, was born May 5, 1930 in Everettville, West Virginia, a son of Crosby Jake and Rhoda William Robinson. Alfonso was a coalminer in West Virginia for over 20 years, and later was a self-employed truck driver before retiring. His hobbies in his pastime were working on trucks, sitting under his tree, listening to his scanner or country music and taking walks with his favorite walking stick.

He leaves to hold dear his memory, and to celebrate his life and legacy, his beloved wife, the former Willie Delores Smith, whom he married November 3, 1952; six children, George Robinson, Terry A (Althea) Robinson, Ricky Robinson, and Lamont “Charlie” Robinson all of Youngstown, Beverly Douglas of Centerville, and Emery Robinson of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; and two great great great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Joseph Robinson of Youngstown and Raymond Robinson of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tillie Rodgers; five brothers, Jack, Willie H., Donald, Lester and Theodore; five sisters, Mattie Mae Thompkins, Betty Lou Dale, Dorothy Warren, Helen Randolph and Mary Moody; and two grandchildren, Troy White and Lamar Pierce.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Avenue, Youngstown. A grand celebration of his life will follow at 12:00 p.m.
