Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church for Mrs. Sherrolyn Booker Truehill Staten, 71, of Youngstown, who made her transition to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
Mrs. Staten, affectionately known as “Shirl”, was born November 22, 1946 in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph L. and Dorothy Ziegler Booker. She was a 1965 graduate of South High School and received her certification for Data Entry from Youngstown School of Technology. After graduating, Shirl moved to California and began working at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, retiring in 2001 after 33 years of service. She accepted Christ at an early age, and sang her first song at age 4. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memories and honor her legacy, two daughters, Darla (Roger) Holly and Turkesa Truehill both of California; her sister, Joy (Marc) Moore of California; stepson, Clyde Staten, Jr; granddaughter, Jordan Holly; two step grandchildren, Julia and Clyde Staten III; two goddaughters, Artishia Moore and Brandlyn Davis; a godson, L. C. Drummond, Jr; a special friend, Nelson Wolf; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Shirl was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde Staten, whom she married in 1981 and who passed away in 1994; and two brothers, Kenneth and Gary Joseph Booker.
Friends may call Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
