Ronald "Dude" Black

            Memorial Services for Mr. Ronald Black will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church.

            Mr. Black, affectionately called “Dude”, was born May 26, 1940 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph Black and Ada Douglas.  He was a 1958 graduate of East High School and worked at General Motors Lordstown for 30 years, retiring in the 1990’s.   He attended Greater Friendship Baptist Church; was a former member of GM UAW Local 1112 Retirees; and was a member of the Haselton Old Timers.  He enjoyed action and thriller movies; was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved playing cards on Thursday nights with his friends.  He also loved jazz music, frying catfish and turkeys as well as grilling in the outdoors.  He was a U. S. Army veteran.

            He leaves to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in his eternal peace, two sons, Kevin (Leisa) Black of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Karl Black of Ohio; two grandsons, Kevin, Jr. and David Black; two great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Black of Phoenix, AR; a sister, Janice Black of Saginaw, MI; and a host of family and friends.

            Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jewel D. Phillips, whom he married in June of 1981; a grandson, Ryan Allen Black; and his furry friend “Lucy”.

            In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Greater Friendship Baptist Church.

            Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. at the church.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
